When it comes to travel, I’ve never been one to splurge on accommodations. After all, why spend a lot of money on a room that I’ll hardly spend any time in? My philosophy has always been to save that money for good food. But my recent trip to Sri Lanka has made me rethink my standards.
I was fortunate enough to attend Cinnamon TBC Asia 2018, a conference for travel bloggers, social media influencers, and tourism professionals. Before the event, I embarked on a 5-day press trip that took me to various destinations in Sri Lanka. During this incredible journey, I had the pleasure of staying at several Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts, each one more luxurious and breathtaking than the last. Needless to say, this experience has forever changed the way I view accommodations.
Cinnamon is a renowned chain of 13 luxury hotels and resorts in Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Let me introduce you to four of the properties I had the pleasure of experiencing during my stay in this beautiful country.
Cinnamon Bey Beruwala: A Coastal Gem
Located along the southern coastline of Kalutara district, Cinnamon Bey Beruwala is a 5-star resort that boasts 200 rooms and 6 specialized dining options. During my visit, I was greeted by a swanky Superior Room with a terrace facing the ocean. The Turkish-inspired design of the hotel pays homage to the Arabian traders who first made contact with Sri Lanka in the 10th century. The patterns and textures create a stylish and inviting atmosphere. The fully amenitized bathroom and the view from the room’s terrace were simply stunning.
Indulge at Fire Restaurant
Though I didn’t have the chance to dine at Fire restaurant, one of the six dining options at Cinnamon Bey Beruwala, I can tell you that it’s a fine dining pizzeria and grill. The ambiance is sure to enhance your dining experience and the food is bound to be exceptional.
The Extraordinary Rock Salt Restaurant
One of the highlights of my stay was dining at Rock Salt restaurant. The chef took us to a seaside market to purchase fresh fish, which he expertly prepared for our dinner. The meal was absolutely exquisite, and the presentation was a work of art. From delectable sashimi and sushi to mouthwatering seafood miso soup, every dish was a delight. But the real showstopper was the lava rock cooking experience. We were given hot slabs of stone on which we could cook our own raw fish, shrimp, chicken, and vegetables. It was a truly unique and interactive dining experience that I won’t soon forget.
Hikka Tranz by Cinnamon: A Youthful Haven
In the vibrant town of Hikkaduwa lies Hikka Tranz by Cinnamon, a 4-star resort with a youthful and energetic vibe. This hotel features a flashy color scheme and a captivating wall-to-wall mural in the lobby. It’s the perfect base for exploring nearby Galle and enjoying whale watching in Mirissa. My spacious Superior Room had a balcony overlooking the ocean, providing a tranquil and picturesque view. The Tranzfusion Restaurant offered a variety of delicious meals, including a buffet with grilled-to-order dishes. Dining with the sound of crashing waves in the background was a truly memorable experience.
Cinnamon Wild Yala: A Safari Adventure
Located in Tissamaharama, Cinnamon Wild Yala is a 4-star resort known for its proximity to Yala National Park. The resort consists of detached bungalows, giving guests a sense of privacy and tranquility. I stayed in a fantastic jungle chalet, complete with a canopy and mosquito net. The earthy and natural design of the room made me feel like I was truly on a safari adventure. The Tuskers Restaurant served traditional Sri Lankan and continental cuisine in a buffet setting. The highlight, however, was the reservoir located nearby, where I even spotted crocodiles and wild buffalo. It was an incredible experience, to say the least.
Cinnamon Grand Colombo: Grandeur in the City
Capping off the press trip was a stay at Cinnamon Grand Colombo, the largest hotel in Sri Lanka. This 5-star hotel features 501 rooms, 14 restaurants, and 10 event spaces. My deluxe room exuded luxury and comfort, making it the perfect retreat after a long day. The Nuga Gama Restaurant, designed to resemble a traditional village, offered a unique dining experience. With a spread of delectable dishes and a cultural show featuring traditional dancers and musicians, it was a memorable evening.
As you can see, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts offer an unparalleled level of luxury and comfort. Whether you’re looking for a coastal escape, a youthful haven, a safari adventure, or a city retreat, there is a Cinnamon property to suit your desires.
