Have you ever thought about making a difference in the lives of orphaned children? In Sri Lanka, there are numerous children who are in need of love, support, education, and a safe and healthy environment. The aftermath of years of civil war has left the country grappling with poverty, and the government alone cannot provide enough support for these children. That’s where you come in.
Why Orphanages Matter
Many local organizations, with some assistance from the government, have established orphanages throughout Sri Lanka. These orphanages not only provide shelter for the children but also offer food, education, and clothing. By working together with these organizations, DHPL Travels is proud to support the orphanages located in the beautiful town of Galle, approximately 117 km south of Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka.
Your Role as a Volunteer
As a volunteer in the orphanage project, you will have the opportunity to work directly with the children for approximately 3 hours each day. Your responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with daily activities
- Playing and engaging with the children
- Assisting with educational activities
About the Orphanage and Pre-School
The orphanage primarily serves children who have lost their parents to natural disasters, such as the devastating Tsunami. It also operates a small pre-school within its premises, providing early education to 36 children aged up to 4 years.
Skills and Requirements
To become a volunteer, all you need is a passion for serving children and the ability to provide them with the love and care they deserve. Fluency in English is a plus, as it is widely spoken and understood by most Sri Lankans. However, learning the local language will enable you to connect with the children on a deeper level. Don’t worry though, during the language and cultural training program provided by DHPL Travels, you will be equipped with the necessary knowledge to communicate effectively and understand local customs.

Located in the enchanting town of Galle, our projects offer you the chance to immerse yourself in the rich Sri Lankan culture and explore the breathtaking landscapes. Galle boasts beautiful villages, historical sites, and stunning beaches. Some of the must-visit places include the Kalutara Temple, Peace Pagoda, Galle Fort, and the turtle hatcheries along the coast. Indulge in the local cuisine and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the city.

Your volunteer journey doesn’t have to end in Galle. Sri Lanka is a treasure trove of historical cities, scenic sites, and stunning beaches. Visit ancient capitals like Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, where you can explore the remarkable ruins built by ancient kings. For an adventure, hike up the renowned “SIGIRIYA ROCK” and marvel at the breathtaking scenery from the top. Don’t forget to explore the gorgeous beaches in the North East, such as Arugam Bay beach, and discover the many monasteries, temples, parks, churches, museums, and art galleries scattered across the region.
